Meditation and Dementia
Meditation can work for everyone. It is irrelevant if a person has dementia or not!!! In this video, I introduce you to the Compassion Sisters. They consist of a person living with dementia and their care-partner. The one on the right has dementia, or maybe it’s the one the left:) Creating the right environment, focusing on a simple object, (like a beautiful plant), a classic loving-kindness meditation, and the stage is set for beautiful moments of calm and connection in the present moment.
“Cultivate a sustained empathic inquiry”
Pilar Jennings
This beautiful quote from one of my instructors, Pilar Jennings, touches on several themes which inform my OnGrowing Mindfulness meditations for dementia related sessions.
Cultivate a respectful relationship with the senior and their care-partner I am working with.
Always exhibit empathy and compassion.
Inquire and connect on multiple levels; cognitively, socially, sensory, and imaginatively to inspire and lead the most rewarding meditation session.
