Meditation and Dementia

Meditation can work for everyone. It is irrelevant if a person has dementia or not!!! In this video, I introduce you to the Compassion Sisters. They consist of a person living with dementia and their care-partner. The one on the right has dementia, or maybe it’s the one the left:) Creating the right environment, focusing on a simple object, (like a beautiful plant), a classic loving-kindness meditation, and the stage is set for beautiful moments of calm and connection in the present moment.

“Cultivate a sustained empathic inquiry”

Pilar Jennings

This beautiful quote from one of my instructors, Pilar Jennings, touches on several themes which inform my OnGrowing Mindfulness meditations for dementia related sessions.

  1. Cultivate a respectful relationship with the senior and their care-partner I am working with.

  2. Always exhibit empathy and compassion.

  3. Inquire and connect on multiple levels; cognitively, socially, sensory, and imaginatively to inspire and lead the most rewarding meditation session.
